About daybreak, his hat was discovered upon the bank, and examination showed that someone had fallen into the river at that place. Soon after he contracted a disease and was advised to go North for its treatment. But the water has risen about three feet since the late rain, and the horse may have stumbled on the rough bottom and thrown his rider; and as no tracks could be discovered on the opposite bank, it is feared that Mr. Foster was plunged into the rapid current and drowned.
